Book Spotlight: Swords & Stones by Kimberly Lynn Hanson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Swords & Stones is a fun, action-packed ride with well-chosen POVs and surprising plot twists.

I loved the premise for this series – the next generation in the Arthurian world. Aptly named Descendants of the Round Table, this book has Disney Descendants vibes as we are meeting the children of the greats who made all of the legends. The POVs were perfect: Ren (a knight of the round table’s son), Gwen (Guinevere and Lancelot’s daughter), and Lina (a beautiful druid with magic and fighting skills). And thank goodness, we also get young, sexy Merlin, who is not a POV but honestly, I could have had more of on the page.

A Camelot-inspired tale wouldn’t be the same without lots of magic and quests and romance. This book gave us all of that but for the YA reader, similar to the tv show, Merlin, which I adored.

My favorite character and POV was Gwen because she has the conflict of her parents plus her own struggles to fit into the Camelot ideal. Her choices and journey were the most interesting to follow because the reader doesn’t know where her path will take her – for better and for worse.

This book is perfect for YA fantasy fans and for those who can never get enough of Camelot and King Arthur’s world. I’m excited for the second book and to see where things go in this series.
