My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Firefly Summer was the perfect middle grade read for the last week of August with this book’s warm, feel-good vibes and immersive summer life.
My summer was wrapping up. I had saved this book for when the weather was about to change. When I was yearning for one last glimpse of summertime. The Firefly Summer gives you the joy of kids being free to explore and solve mysteries and save the camp that is valuable to them. This book about family and connection and evolved grief that surfaces through learning what we share with those we’ve lost.
Morgan Matson handles a lot of characters and their personalities with a skilled hand. She also gives us a fun mystery while balancing Ryanna’s shifting feelings about her role in her family and being her dad’s caretaker. I like how she embraced being a kid and prioritized connecting with her mom’s history.
A very satisfying read and the perfect end to summer!
