Book Spotlight: The Curse of Eelgrass Bog

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Curse of Eelgrass Bog was a spellbinding read. Gorgeous prose with a perfect middle grade voice, Kess was a sympathetic character who pulled us into her cobweb brain and ensuing fantastical adventure.

A well-constructed fantasy world, the descriptions of both the Unnatural History Museum and Eelgrass Bog made the settings tangible for the reader. I felt immersed in these places and adored the twists and turns of Kess’s mystery and eventual recollections. I loved even more that once the mystery unraveled, we were left to explore and adventure in the unnatural world. It was exciting and unpredictable and so perfect for the middle grade reader.

This book was brilliant, and I look forward to reading more by Mary Averling.
