Book Spotlight: Ravenfall by Kalyn Josephson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read Ravenfall twice this year. The first time I read it because the story looked spooky and fun. The second time, I read the book with my boys because I thought they would enjoy it. They did, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time through.

Kalyn Josephson builds an inviting and imaginative world that any kid and middle grade-loving adult would enjoy. Whether it’s the magical inn or the town of Wick, she gives us layers of details – all fun, colorful, and surprising – and seamlessly weaves magic into the book.

Anna and Colin have strong and distinct POVs. Each has their own motivations and struggles, and I resonated with both of their voices for different reasons. I also enjoyed their growing friendship and how they faced challenges together.

Hollowthorn, the sequel to Ravenfall, is on my TBR. My boys and I can’t wait to return to this magical world and read the next adventure!
